The H5 Public Terminal Cluster!
Goals for this year:
-
Put less effort into the cluster than we did into h2k2.
-
Have a more visible presence.
-
Be hella cool.
In support of the first goal:
-
Seat count of 30 in the main cluster plus a few extra.
-
Stick with one platform type
In support of the second:
-
Have the cluster be on 18. Specifically, in Madison. (but this isn't 24/7 this year so "pods" are crucial)
-
6/1: We lost Madison! Main clusters will be on 1 & 2, and whatever we can fit on 18
-
Have a few small pods spread around the conference (in addition to the main room)
And in support of the third:
-
Have it be a functional but non-standard OS, like VMS or plan9
We might be doing the VMS by running SIMH under Linux. This is because getting VAX/Alpha hardware is proving to be difficult and/or expensive.

IRC! (everybody loves irc)
Check out channel #ptc on server dart.cyberport.net. MikeHolling idles there and will see anything you type eventually. He's also a total nerd and spends most of his time online so there's a good chance he'll actually be around.
